Not my imagination

Dixie is a very caring, loving dog. She loves to cuddle and sit quietly beside you if you're reading or on the computer. If I bruise or hit my arm, that's the side she will sit on and gently lick my arm. She does the same thing with Dwight-if he hurts himself, she goes to the site of the injury and licks. This would be easily explained if it was an open cut, but it's not. It's arthritis, a bruise, or even leg cramps. She knows and tries to make it better. Come to find out there are a lot of dogs out there with a "sixth" sense-it's documented and used in hospitals. These animals can detect cancer, drops in blood sugar, and even blood pressure. Did you know that dogs have one million times more smell than a human?

They KNOW

I don't know how two little dogs know when something is wrong but they do. This morning I woke up with a migraine-the kind that putting your head in a vise would make it feel better kind. The kind that sunlight and flourescent lights make you squint in pain. They wanted out and I struggled out of bed to let them out to do their business. I stoked the fire, fed the fish, washed some dishes and let them back in. I thought we were going to have a sit down-and explain who was boss-and that we were going back to bed. They followed me into the bedroom-and waited for me to lift them up (they can't jump up there yet). I layed back down-Dixie curled at my feet and Oscar in the curve of my tummy. They didn't bark, play, or even scratch. They just cuddled until I felt good enough to get out of bed and start the day.
I love those dogs!

Making Doves Cry

Monday I went out in the snow to feed the chickens and there were two doves in the chicken pen. I wondered how they got in. There is only a very small section of wire big enough for them to possibly fit through-and they would have to contort their bodies a little to do it. I figured if they got in, they could get out. Tuesday, they were still there. Looking a little big rough. The rooster might have had something to do with that but I didn't actually see him touch them and they certainly weren't going to let me get close to them.
This morning they were still there so I entered the pen and caught one by the tail feathers. I didn't realize they could shed their feathers at will, but they can. I chased it down again and the second one was much easier to catch. It might have been scared of losing feathers or something. Anyway, they were turned out and set free.

Our house today

These are some pictures I took today.

Dixie and Oscar playing in the snow.
Dixie looking all innocent (notice who had the upper hand in the picture above)

The ducks don't care about the snow as long as the corn doesn't stop.

Happy Valentine's Day Dwight

" I didn't plan on falling in love with you, and I doubt if you planned on falling in love with me. But once we met, it was clear that neither of us could control what was happening to us".. from the Notebook
I promise I won't make you watch the movie with me again, but know that I love you!

Valentines compliments of Fedex

A couple of special northern fur seals will have an unforgettable Valentine’s Day this year with a little help from FedEx Corp.

Commander, a nearly 300-pound 11-year-old male northern fur seal, was transported via a donated FedEx flight from Seattle to Boston.
Commander will soon meet Ursula, a 16-year-old female northern fur seal, one of the species’ last reproductively viable females in an American zoo or aquarium.
The number of northern fur seals in U.S. aquariums has dwindled to just nine, and the rendezvous, just in time for Valentine’s Day, is part of a breeding collaboration between the Seattle Aquarium and the New  England Aquarium designed to increase the population.
Commander was transported by FedEx in a specially designed enclosure, and he was accompanied by his veterinarian and one of his trainers throughout his journey.  He will make his new home at the New England
Aquarium, where he will be introduced to a community of fur seals, including Ursula.

Celebrate TODAY

Celebrate today. Celebrate that you're alive or in love (more on that in four days) but celebrate. A year ago today, we were celebrating Mom and Mike's twenty-fifth anniversary. In the little church they renewed their wedding vows and when they promised "Until death do us part" none of us had any idea how ridicously soon that would be. I am so glad they celebrated that day. I'm so glad we got to see Mom and Mike with that special glow.
So if you're reading this do something to celebrate this day of love. Tell your husband he has a voice that you dream of. Let your wife catch you sneaking into the kitchen for just one more bite of that new recipe. Hold hands for no reason. Put your arm around her in the vehicle or at church. Make so many happy memories that your daughter couldn't write them down and put them on one piece of paper if she tried.
Take too many pictures. Dance like nobody is watching. Sing out loud. Hug every chance you get.

Recipe 6 Frozen Doggie treats

You know I love trying new recipes and all GOOD things from Pinterest. This was just way too easy to do. Frozen Yogurt Treats. The recipe used a heart mold (go figure) but I used a flower mold and it came out just fine.
You need:
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 container of greek yogurt-plain or vanilla flavored

Take a clean mold and use a paper towel (or clean fingers) to rub peanut butter in-just enough to cover the mold. Then fill mold with yogurt and freeze. This usually takes 4 hours.
That's it. Just pop the frozen treats out and give to dogs or husband.
These are good for humans too.
